Joint Job Evaluation:

Cast your vote on May 29th or May 30th and endorse the new JJE System!

While the JJE and Pay Equity negotiations were difficult we have arrived at an agreement we support. The agreement does not involve individual evaluation results as these are guided strictly by the objective apolitical JJE evaluation process and were not negotiated.

The agreement provides many employees with increases. A key feature of the tentative agreement referred as “green circle” guarantees no employee will suffer a loss of income as a result of the transition to the new program.

Job cuts at Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB)

On March 20th WSIB under government direction issued 87 job redundancies. This is in addition to the 76 employees affected in February. This added with the 37 unplaced employees in Prevention means there are 200 people in need of a permanent job.

In addition we estimate over 100 bargaining unit and non-bargaining employees have accepted Voluntary exit packages

As a result there are at least 300 less people available to help injured workers, improve safety, prevent accidents and contain cost.

For many years the employer and union have been able to move forward with change in a way that supported employees. But today employees do not feel valued and morale has sunk lower than ever before.

Many of us are wondering what happened to the organizations heart.

The union executive is working to ensure those that want to stay can do so.

We are proposing options to help mitigate the impacts, save jobs and avert bumping and layoffs.

We have been assured there are no additional large job impacts expected for the remainder of the year. However more change is anticipated in the years ahead as a result of the employer's strategic plan.

“We believe this is only the beginning of job cuts and outsourcing and it's the last thing we need when the economy is struggling just to maintain good jobs,” Paul Moist, CUPE National President

“Even if every job was cut there would still be an unfunded liability at WSIB. The liability is not the problem, the skilled staff are not the problem and the short sighted cuts are not the solution.” Fred Hahn, CUPE Ontario President

Harry Goslin, President of CUPE Local 1750 representing WSIB employees says “Cutting skilled employees and outsourcing non-profit work to profit organizations will not help the organization fulfill its mandate, it won't help employers make their workplaces safer, it will only reduce service levels and increase wait times.”
