In times of great hardship and need, the labour movement shows the meaning of solidarity and mobilizes to bring support to workers, their families and their communities.

We have all watched with horror the images of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. Emergency relief to aid the victims is essential and we know Canada's union members will respond with the same generosity and solidarity as you have in the past.

The Canadian Labour Congress, in cooperation with the Canadian Red Cross, is working to provide an easy way for union members to make a donation to help the victims of the devastating earthquake, instantly receive a tax receipt and, at the same time, ensure that your donation is matched by the federal government's pledge to match individual donations dollar for dollar.

From now until February 12, 2010 you can make a secure donation by clicking here.

Union members in Canada have a proud tradition of helping those in need. Workers in Haiti, their families and their communities need our solidarity, and our help. Forward this email to your union friends.

In Solidarity,
Ken Georgetti, President

 Budget Impacts

Last week the union was informed of a decision to impact staff as a result of next year's administrative budget and organizational change. In a very short time frame the union negotiated an agreement that ensured every affected employee would have an immediate job match.

The bottom line is that employees are the most valueable asset our employer has. PERIOD! The road to zero starts in our workplace.

Local 1750 believes the work overload problem is primarily caused by a lack of staff to perform the work. In addition there is a need to improve business process so that people can work smarter not harder.

*Our employers liabilities are growing and revenues are declining. To turn this around we beliew the private for profit Labour Market Re-entry contracts should end in favour of public delivery of Vocational Rehabilitation services. We also believe Ontario should legislate 100% mandatory coverage under the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act. Doing so will increase revenues and reduce cost for the 70% of employers currently covered by the WSIA

By working together to improve our workplace we can make a positive difference!

In Solidarity,

Harry Goslin, President
